Unlike other guest ranches Moose Head Ranch is privately owned, family operated and completely surrounded by Grand Teton National Park, providing our guests with a panoramic vista of the Teton Range.
Imagine riding with your family and seeing elk, bison, mule deer and antelope up close.
Picture meadows of alpine flowers such as lupine and fireweed as you gaze down at the legendary Snake River.
At the end of each ride relax on your cabin porch or the Lodge deck with the ever changing vista of the majestic Tetons in the distance, with no blaring horns or city noises, just the sound of the babbling brook and the laughter of your children as they play with new found friends.
Bond with your children without the interfering sports schedules, meetings and social activities that crowd your family life back home. When was the last time you played cards or checkers with your kids?
All of that and more is here for you at the ranch.

In 1925, the year Moose Head Ranch was homesteaded, Jackson Hole was a land of pioneers and ranch families who worked hard to live in such a beautiful, pristine setting. The Ranch was purchased in 1967 by John Mettler and is now in the capable third generation hands of Chris and Lindsay Davenport, who grew up on the ranch and are now following their parents, Louise and Kit, who are retiring after many years.
Eddy Edmiston also grew up at Moose Head, and has taken over the ranch manager position when his father, Dave, retired after 37 years. For both management and guests, there’s something about this Jackson Hole Dude Ranch that gets in your blood and keeps you coming back …. again and again.
Moose Head accommodates approximately 44 guests in comfortable and well appointed cabins that are scattered amongst the cottonwoods and pines. Many overlook our stocked trout ponds.
Most have wood burning stoves and all are equipped with small refrigerators and coffee machines, and ice is delivered daily. Flowers are an important part of Moose Head, and hanging baskets can be found on cabin porches. Numerous well tended planters are everywhere and wildflowers are especially abundant in the Park as well as on the ranch.
At Moose Head our philosophy is that good food is just as important as good horses. We take pride in our food, having been featured in Gourmet Magazine. It’s easy to eat healthy with the many choices we offer at every meal.
Breakfast offers an extensive buffet of freshly cut fruit and pastries with hot entrees made to order from the kitchen.
The lunch buffet has a variety of fresh salads, a hot soup and entrée as well as Boar’s Head meats for sandwiches. Desserts, cookies and fruit are always available.
Multiple dinner entrées, including fresh fish and game selections, are there to entice you. At Moose Head we also offer children’s meals for any that prefer them. Our Sunday Night Cookout is often considered the highlight of the Moose Head week when guests and staff come together to eat, mingle, toast s’mores and sing. Please tell us in advance if you have any special dietary requests or restrictions. It will be no problem for the Moose Head chefs to accommodate your needs.
Saddle up and go for a morning, afternoon or an all day ride.
Moose Head’s minimum riding age is 6. Families and couples ride in small groups always accompanied by a wrangler.
Don’t feel like riding? Try fly-fishing on one of our well stocked ponds. We have the equipment and would love to teach you if you have the desire to learn. The more experienced angler may want to fish the Snake River, which is easily accessible from the Ranch.
Take a light hike down to the river, or simply relax and enjoy the splendor of the Grand Tetons from your porch. Challenge your kids to a game of horseshoes or croquet. Play a friendly game of volleyball.
After dinner, go for a drive to look for elusive moose that come out at dusk. Join other guests and the crew for a friendly game of softball. Watch the sun set over the Tetons from your cabin deck or porch.
